Your First Grader will be taking spelling tests each week. Here are the lists week by week.
Each list is a combination of words with the vowel sounds and spelling patterns we’re learning that week in school. To the side of each list are High Frequency words that we are learning.
How to help: Have the student say the word, spell it out loud and write the word. Repeat 3 times. Encourage the student to “stretch the word out”, saying it slowly and writing it as he/she says it. Practice writing short sentences, using the word, and editing for mistakes.
We will be working on these words at school. It would be most helpful if you would help your child at home too. The students who practice at home usually have more success. A sentence will also be dictated each week and graded on capitalization, punctuation, spacing, and spelling.
Thanks for all you do!
